My Background

Since 2011, Katie has been a California Licensed Acupuncturist and is also certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She earned a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego and holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology and athletic training.

For 10 years, Katie operated her practice out of a busy sports medicine clinic, working alongside physical therapists, sports chiropractors and personal trainers. She treated everyone from kids and the weekend warrior to professional athletes. During her time at Pacific College, Katie trained in integrative pain management, sports medicine and women’s health, working under several renowned health practitioners. She has an extensive background in Western medicine from her experience as an athletic trainer at Luther College and in medical research at the University of Iowa. She continues to study under practitioners well versed on the classics of Chinese Medicine as well as staying up to date on latest advances in Western care.

Katie hopes that with her background in Western medicine, she can help bridge the gap between the two medical traditions by educating Western healthcare practitioners and patients in the natural treatment methods offered by East Asian medicine.

Katie practices traditional Chinese medicine, encompassing both acupuncture and herbal medicine, and she incorporates nutritional counseling, cupping, gua sha, and exercise advice into treatments. Her special interests include women’s health, pain management, mental health, internal medicine, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and anti-aging/illness prevention.
